A 6-hour training with Jacqui Abikoff, LICSW, MLADC
PRESENTATION: Clinical supervisors are in a position of significant power and responsibility. Responsibilities inherent in this role are to the supervisees, the agency/organization for which they work, the clients, the profession and ultimately to oneself. Balancing these responsibilities requires a clear understanding of the role of clinical supervision in practice management including inherent liability issues and the various practical and ethical responsibilities of the position. Navigating these obligations often raises ethical issues for both the supervisor and the supervisees. This training will examine the roles, obligations and responsibilities of clinical supervisors as well as the ethical and legal parameters that define that role. The differences between, and liability attached to, clinical supervision, administrative supervision and peer collaboration will also be highlighted.
At the end of this training participants will
- be able to state the differences between supervision and collaboration;
- be able to utilize appropriate methods for documenting clinical supervision;
- understand the potential for conflicts that may arise in dual relationships between supervisor/supervisee; and
- be able to explain areas of professional liability and vicarious liability stemming from the supervisor role.
