CBT, Causation Theory & Cognitive Restructuring – Approaches to Change for Substance Use Disorders

This 3 hour training is created for addiction professionals and other service providers interested in improving skills & increasing knowledge in the area of Cognitive Behavior Theories and Approaches to Change. This training will highlight 2 specific types of CBT approaches applicable to combating underlying issues common to clients with SUD history:  rejection & abandonment, and toxic relationships – issues often at the helm of initial substance misuse as well as relapse of substance use.  Participants will be able to:

  • Describe 2 specific types of cognitive behavior therapy approaches, their differences and similarities as well as implementation in the treatment of alcohol and other drug addiction.
  • Assist clients in identifying toxic relationships, rejection and abandonment as common underlying issues attributing to substance use relapse.
  • Apply specific CBT techniques to address the identified issues and enhance the client’s chances of ongoing recovery.

LADC/MLADC Categories of Competence: 6, 7, 18
CRSW Performance Domains:  3
NBCC: LICSW/L-MFT/LCMHC (Category A) & Psychologist Category A
NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider. ACEP No 6754. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. NHADACA is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.
