Engaging with Individuals Re-entering from Prisons and Jails

Sponsor: NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association

People with SUDs and mental health challenges are disproportionately over represented in prisons and jails across the US and over 95% of them are going to be released after they serve their sentences.  This training will focus on the clinical and social needs of said individuals and will delineate effective re-entry and treatment strategies and techniques. As a result of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the criminal justice response to public health matter;
  • List at least 3 of the impacts of incarceration and the needs of individuals re-entering into communities; and
  • Describe at least 2 effective treatment strategies and the social service needs of the re-entry populations.
