Families & Addiction

Please be advised that the format of this training (virtual or in-person) will be decided two weeks prior to its scheduled time and based on the best public health advice NHADACA can access.  Some trainings are not appropriate for the virtual format and may be cancelled as late as two weeks prior to their start date.

PRESENTATION:  This introductory workshop explores how the addiction of the individual affects the entire family system.  Special attention will be paid to the effects on children in the family.  Discussion will center on strategies and resources to help increase their resiliency and coping skills. This workshop is preapproved for three CEs. Learning Objectives:

  • describe the effects of addiction on the family
  • recognize roles within a family with addiction
  • identify strengths and needs associated with particular behavioral patterns of children and families with addiction
  • make appropriate interventions and referrals to community based resources.

PRESENTER: Lindy Keller, MS, MLADC, is a Master Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor who has worked in the addiction field since 1980.  She received her A.B. in Psychology and Religion from Duke University and her M.S. in Community Mental Health with a specialization in Dual Diagnosis from Southern New Hampshire University.  Her experience includes direct service, consultation, training and administration of programs addressing substance use concerns.  She has presented workshops on aspects of addiction, co-occurring disorders, recovery, enhancing change, high‑risk youth, resiliency and families.  She has served on the faculty of the New England School of Addiction Studies since 2007.  In her current position as the Resources and Development Administrator for the NH Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services, she is responsible for public and professional education, support for internal systems development and cross-systems policy and program development.
