Motivational Interviewing – Practicing Skills for Behavior Change

A 3.75 hour remote live training with Noel Quinn, PhD.

PRESENTATION: During this half day Motivational Interviewing training, Dr. Noel Quinn will briefly review Motivational Interviewing skills covered in the first session. Attendees will gain a more detailed understanding of MI fundamentals and OARS application.

For the second half of the training, Dr. Quinn will introduce client resistance and discordance; common barriers of effective MI. Attendees will have opportunities to sharpen their skills using all the MI tools through small group case-based interaction and feedback specific to substance use scenarios and other chronic conditions found within integrated medical settings.

Attendees will identify and practice using two or more motivational interviewing strategies identifying skills to address discordance and client resistance to change.

Presenter Noel Burns Quinn, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist with advanced competencies in Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine. She is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and serves as the Health Behavior Coordinator for a large VA Medical Center that is dedicated to delivering trauma-informed care. In this role, she develops, delivers, and evaluates health promotion and disease prevention programs. Dr. Quinn is a clinician coach assisting healthcare providers in enhancing their patient communication skills. She is also an Associate Program Director for an interprofessional residency program in primary care, and the Co-Director of a postdoctoral residency program in Health Psychology.
