Brief Description: Individuals with HIV experience chronic pain secondary to the disease and its treatment which can affect quality of life. Pain and its treatment can also be affected by comorbid conditions such as substance use disorders and mental health conditions. For some individuals, behavioral therapies to address pain may not be accessible due to psychosocial circumstances. Using a case-based approach, the discussion will include an overview of the evidence for treatment of pain in those with HIV. The discussion will also include nursing interventions that may impact the experience of pain for those living with HIV.
