PRESENTATION: The impact of substance use during periods of psychosocial and psychosexual development can be significant. We will explore normative sexual development and ways substance use can impact a person at major milestones. Case histories will be presented. We will focus on adolescence and early adulthood, but will review development across the lifespan. With the introduction of substances, we will review how specific substances impact sexual functioning. As a result of this training participants will be able to:
- Describe the stages of the sexual response and how that can be impacted by substance use
- Identify major milestones in physiological and psychosocial sexual development in the context of substance use onset and addictive behaviors
- Identify 3 ways that substances can impact sexual functioning.
